LNC Website Name

What’s in an LNC Website Name?

What should you consider in picking your website name? This is an important decision that will drive many other aspects of your branding.

Tips for picking a website name

1. The LNC website name should match your company name if at all possible. For example, if your company is called Jane Adams Legal Nurse Consulting, your site could be AdamsLNC.com or JaneAdamsLNC. Incidentally, I recommend not using your name in your company name if you have aspirations of growing your business.
2. Keep your LNC website name as short as possible. The longer the name, the hard it is to remember and spell.
3. Identify common misspellings of your website name and reserve those domains also. For example, I have PatIyer, PatIlyer, PatLyer, and PatIyers. I set these misspellings up so that if someone types in the incorrect spelling she is directed to Patiyer.com. Redirects are done in the company that sold you the domain name. Godaddy.com is a popular service for looking up names.
4. Try to get a dot com ending for your LNC website name. It is the most common and most easily remembered type of domain name.
5. Be careful to not pick a name that is very close to someone else’s. Visitors intending to find you may end up on the wrong site. Do searches on Google for LNC company names, trying out the terms that appeal to you.
6. Avoid having dashes, underscores, and numbers in your website name. These increase the complexity and chance someone will make an error in typing.
7. Stay away from purchasing expensive website names. Some sharp individuals buy up desirable domain names and then offer to sell that for thousands of dollars. When I was thinking of writing a diet book, a man offered to sell me a desirable domain name for $60,000! I laughed.
8. Ask others their opinions of LNC website names you are considering. Sometimes we can get blinded by our enthusiasm for a name.

Choose carefully. You’ll be investing time and money in your LNC website and want it to be a professional representation of your business.

Pat Iyer got her first website name in 1996, making her one of the earliest LNCs to be on the web.
