Harnessing the Power of Your Time and Concentration

book with word planning written on it

Harnessing the power of your time and concentration is vital to achieving everything you want. Who doesn’t want to get more done in less time? That’s possible when you learn how to use the power of your concentration.

Many LNCs struggle with having enough time to accomplish what they want.  Yet we continue to waste time on the wrong things. Daily, we are faced with the challenge of trying to get tons of work done in short amounts of time.

Your ability to do this will come down to many things, but one of the most important aspects is just how effective you are at focusing and holding your attention for long periods without interruption.

In other words, you need to be able to sit in front of your computer and analyze a set of medical records, or to spend 2 hours straight responding to emails and finding new leads.

There’s just a little problem with that statement. Most of us are not well-practiced at keeping our attention in this way. The fact is that most of us will struggle with being easily distracted by TV, social media, or calling friends for a chat.

Here’s the good news – understanding the way your brain works can help you to get a little more work done.

Harnessing the Power of Your Concentration

You constantly shift your attention from one thing to another without realizing you are doing it. Sometimes this is conscious, while other times it is a reaction that your body does for you – such as when you hear a noise or notice movement.

Our ability to change and hold our attention is called ‘executive attention.’  According to psychologists, this is controlled by the ‘dorsal attention network’ (our conscious attention) and our ‘ventral attention network’.

To decide what is important, the brain defers to another specific region called the ‘salience network’. Our salience network responds primarily to biological signals that are tied to our most basic survival needs – things like hunger, fear, surprise, and curiosity are what drive us.

So, what does this have to do with the busy LNC?

Everything! It shows you how you can regain control over your brain.

First, avoid signals that will distract you from your focus. It’s important to note that many of these are biologically driven. That means you need to avoid sudden loud noises in your environment, movement, or flashing lights.

Likewise, it also means that you need to avoid feelings of discomfort, such as being too hot or hungry. (I never miss a meal.) All of these things will appear to be more ‘salient’ as far as your brain is concerned.

Remind yourself why you are doing the things you are doing and find that emotional drive. It’s not easy for the brain to think of typing as being highly important, which is why it’s so easy to get distracted.

Your job is to remind yourself then what typing really means. It means having access to all the resources you could possibly want, to feelings of success and reward, and to the freedom to go wherever you want. It means billable time.

Your LNC Business Can Grow by Writing a Book

Harnessing the Power of Your Time

Time management skills are vital skills for successful individuals. Successful people will tell you that you are the highest achievers in life, from business, sports, or community service. If you utilize the skills well, you will likely function exceptionally well, even under pressure.

At the core of time management is a crucial shift in direction. Center on results, not on being busy. Many individuals spend their days in a fury of activity, but accomplish very little, as they’re not concentrating their effort on the affairs that matter the most.

Managing time effectively requires goal setting. When you understand where you’re going, you are able to then work out what precisely needs to be done, in what order. Without suitable goal setting, you’ll fool away your time in the disarray of conflicting priorities.

If you want to succeed, you need to set goals. Without goals, you miss focus and direction. Goal setting not only lets you take charge of your life’s direction, but it also supplies you a benchmark for regulating whether you’re really succeeding.

Prioritization is the requisite skill you need to make the very best use of your efforts, and those around you.

It’s especially crucial when time is fixed and demands are seemingly inexhaustible. It helps you to spend your time wisely, freeing people up from more insignificant tasks that can be served later.

In Summary

With beneficial prioritization, you are able to bring order to disorganization, massively cut stress, and move onward with success. Without it, you’ll stagger around, drowning in competing needs.

Once you master time skills, you will discover that you can take charge of your workload and alleviate stress caused by work overload.

Keep your eye on the prize and always remind yourself why the thing you are doing is so important.
