The benefits of power relationships

happy man and woman“Power relationships” sound so important and cool. In reality they are wonderful and invigorating. It is fulfilling when you can pick up the phone or send an email and get the help you need. That’s the key to having the perfect power relationship.

What power relationships can do for you

Hopefully you are that powerful person for someone as well. One of the reasons people join professional legal nurse consulting associations is for the contacts and networking. Your colleagues can be useful referrals and references for you.

Although you may have relationships formed only through electronic media there is nothing that can beat a face to face meeting. Have you ever dealt with someone online or electronically and imagined what they look like? And then when you meet them in person, you are surprised by what you see.

Yet, it is much easier to form a relationship when you can picture the person you’re talking with. That’s why Skype video has become so popular.

Yes, you can hire public relations specialists so you can have your name placed in important places. But you can make those contacts yourself and it’s important for you to get to know the people who write about your areas of expertise.

These are true power relationships and can often make or break you so start paying attention to media people and who are the power players in your industry.

Sometimes it’s just luck when you run into someone who can help you. However, if you’re open to possibilities and reciprocate (and that can be just through politeness and etiquette), wonderful things can happen.

I remember when I met someone just waiting in an airline terminal. He made a contact for me who is valuable to this day. Although I wasn’t able to do anything fantastic for him, I did send a thank you card and a copy of one of my books.

Keep an open mind. Look for ways to help others, and others will help you. Our new webinar will give you concrete suggestions for developing power relationships.
