3 Tips for Persuasive Legal Nurse Consulting Writing Part 2

tips for persuasive LNC reportsLearn how to keep your legal nurse consulting reports interesting and persuasive. To find out how to improve your copywriting skills, follow these tips.

Part 1 covered 3 tips:

Vary sentence length, cut out the fluff and eliminate prepositions. Here are the next 3 tips.

Split Long Sentences

If you find yourself writing extremely long or complex sentences, try splitting them into two, or sometimes even three sentences. Sometimes, after thinking of the purpose of your words, you might even want to rewrite them slightly. In the example below, I was trying to call attention to a video promoting an online course, but I was also hoping that the readers might share the video with their friends and co-workers. The revised version makes my desired goal much more clear.

WRONG: To help spread the word about our new “Real Fast Influence and Persuasion” online course, Daniel Hall and I made this video to see if it would attract visually-oriented people who might not read a text-based message.
BETTER: Help spread the word about “Real Fast Influence and Persuasion.” Do you think this video will attract visual learners? Please share it with friends!

Write Short Paragraphs

A sure sign that you’re are a wannabe novelist is writing paragraphs that are way tooooo loooooong.

When you’re writing advertising or marketing copy, though, it’s better to keep your paragraphs short and containing only one thought. Use of two to three sentences per paragraph is usually a good rule of thumb. Also, remember to always start a new paragraph when the thought changes.

Be Patient

Sales writing and legal nurse consulting writing requires patience; if you want to get really good at this style of writing, you must be willing to practice a lot. Then, just when you think it’s perfect, tweak it and revise it for best results.

Read other sales letters, brochures, emails, and website copy written by great copywriters, especially in your field. Whenever you can get them, read other legal nurse consulting work product so you can get a sense of how other approach the topic.

If you can’t find many within your field (and there may not be many great copywriters in the legal nurse consulting business, so if you get good at this, you may find yourself with another source of income) then look at other fields: insurance, diet and weight loss, real estate, and online marketing are all fields that employ professional copywriters.

You can also find several good books, websites, and online tutorials about copywriting. Here are just a couple to get you started:

  • The Copywriter’s Handbook, Robert Bly
  • Words That Sell, Richard Mayan
  • Writing Blog Posts That Capture and Convert, Karon Thackston (eBook)
  • Copyblogger.com

But even though you must be patient as you are learning about and improving your copywriting skills, remember that readers might not be so patient. They are busy people who need to make decisions, and they don’t want to wade through a bunch of fluff or long-winded writing.

They want to know what’s going on, and as quickly as possible. Even though they might not realize it consciously, they want and appreciate clear, concise writing. Your legal nurse consulting copy should get to the point and give them the information they need to make a decision or solve a problem.
